Mater: Feeling guilty? No, lo, nyet...okay, maybe

Happy Birthday, AJ2!!! We can't believe how quickly the year has gone by.  One minute you were...

 ...and now you're...
It's really been a great year for you.  Your sports prowess, skill and dexterity have just got better and better, both on the ice...
...and off the ice...
You continue to be a great (if occasionally cheeky) son, grandson, brother and cousin...
...not to mention a fantastic friend to everyone...
All of which therefore begs the very obvious questions as to why oh why your Mater and Pater decided to abandon you on your sixth birthday for a trip to Chicago???  Admittedly, it was largely Pater's fault since he booked the trip as a surprise to celebrate our tenth anniversary.  But nonetheless, Mater did feel very guilty and had an absolutely terrible time in Chicago.  Our very cool hotel, opposite Millennium Park and overlooking The Bean, was really awful...
And don't even talk to me about the awful Chicago sites that Pater had to drag me kicking and screaming to see.  Soooo boring and ugly...

At least if we'd stayed home we'd have got a decent meal.  Not one good restaurant in the whole city!
So of course Mater doesn't feel guilty.  After such a catastrophic, dreary, the-opposite-of-fun trip, how could anyone feel guilty?!  Plus, with Grandma Toronto in charge (a big thanks there!!!) and a large pile of presents (read: Lego), not to mention a party for you on your birthday...
...and then again when we got back, Mater doubts you even knew we were gone...

So does Mater feel guilty for leaving you, AJ2, on your birthday?  Of course she does!!!  Who wouldn't miss seeing your beautiful, smiley face on the most important day of your year.  I'm sorry for being swayed by Pater's arguments that we should celebrate our tenth anniversary.  In 2027, there'll be none of these surprise trips abroad to celebrate twenty years of marriage.  We will be right there when you wake up aged 16, with a big box of Lego to give you!!!!

Happy birthday, AJ2.  Mater and Pater love you very very much!
