Pater: 10 years!!!

On August 24th 2009, we started our blog "to create something for you, our Avocado Junior[s], to look at one day and find out why we did what we did when we did".  And while our universe revolves around you, both in our blog and our reality, our history did not begin with you.

No, for that we need to go back 20 years to a camp in Ennismore, Canada, where an English boy and a Canadian girl met as camp counselors, and managed to find time to make each other laugh while herding a bunch of kids around for 6 weeks..
Over the ensuing ten years, the English boy became a man and the Canadian girl became a woman, both pursuing careers, lives and loves that didn't involve each other.  But a chance meeting in Jerusalem in 2007 (where the Englishman was now living) led to a long-distance romance that enriched their lives, as well as the balance sheet of Israel and Canada's main airline and telecom companies.  At last, after much discussion of when, where and how, and a successful, James Bond-esque plot that outfoxed the wiliest lady on this planet, a hot-air balloon ride over the Hockley Valley in May 2007 led to a promise of marriage...
...which led to the most beautiful and fun wedding EVER...
...and then to ten amazing, loving years together.  Ten years of travelling around the world and staying in our backyard, seeing sites and sights together for the first time or the hundredth time.  Ten years of laughing and crying, often at the same time.  Ten years of phenomenal culinary experiences enjoyed alone and with family and friends, but always with gusto.  Ten years of growing in love even when losing loved ones.  Ten years of developing together in religion and spirituality.  Ten years of sharing good books and struggling through bad movies.  Ten years of sun, snow and the most colourful, beautiful autumns on God's blessed Earth.  Ten years of creating and then nurturing four inquisitive, hilarious, exhausting, outstanding children who demand a myriad more of adjectives.  Ten glorious years that Pater knows words and pictures can only partially capture, but here goes...
Here's to ten more years!  And then to lots of ten more years after those.  Because this English man cannot imagine a life without the inspiring, loving, caring, funny, beautiful Canadian woman who was merciful enough not to laugh when he got down on one knee in a wicker basket, but instead said, yes.
