Pater: Happy (Belated) National Siblings Day

Posted by Pater , Monday, June 29, 2015 9:47 PM

Yes, obviously National Siblings Day is April 10th, and we're a couple months late, but we've had a busy few months...  So here's to siblings the world over, Avocados or otherwise.

"Having lots of siblings is like having built-in best friends."
"Siblings: children of the same parents, each of whom is perfectly normal until they get together."
"When brothers agree, no fortress is so strong as their common life."
"The mildest, drowsiest sister has been known to turn tiger if her sibling is in trouble."
"A brother is friend given by Nature."
"You don't choose your family.  They are God's gift to you, as you are to them."

Mater: Rite of passage

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up.  Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little.  Famous words from Taylor Swift, now tattooed on Pater's brain.  Mater is a little more realistic but, my Avocaodo Jnrs, let's not rush!  As it is, Mater's in denial that your little Cousin Toronto has turned 12 and is going through her rite of passage known in Judaism as a Bat Mitzvah.  It's a crazy idea!  Just yesterday Mater was sitting with a 4 year old girl while she turned pages in an imaginary book and recounted the story of Goldilocks by heart.  Now's she's an adult.  Well, not really an adult.  She's not ready for marriage or earning a living (the Talmud gives her to 18 and 20 for that!), but she is adult enough to accept the commandments of the Torah.  That's a big responsibility but one that Mater has no doubt Cousin Toronto will handle with aplomb.  She is a mature, clever, fun, beautiful young lady and Mater and Pater hope that all three of you follow in her footsteps.  But in the meantime, let's party!
Mazel Tov, Cousin Toronto, from the Avocado Hass Jnrs!!!!
